The building was designed by architect Henry Fernbach and completed in 1872. Fernbach designed nine cast iron loft buildings on this block alone. In the 70’s it was converted into artist lofts organized as a co-op. The building is  located within the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District. A comprehensive exterior restoration program, including all of the cast iron work,  new wood windows, roofing, skylights and granite sidewalks , was completed in 2021.
